Eklavya, The Prince of the Forest - Hand Painted Mural Painting from the Mahabaratha series

This beautiful Painting is part of a series of paintings depicting the story and characters in Mahabaratha. The story of "Eklavya" is as below. 

Arjuna was Drona's favourite student, whom he promised to make an invincible archer. As Drona's fame as a guru spread far and wide, many flocked to Hastinapura to become his puplis. Among them was a tribal boy of Nishada race, named Ekalavya. Drona had to reject him. 

But the boy was undeterred. He returned to the forest, made a clay idol of Drona, worshipped it , and began practice in right earnest. In due course of time, when his skill in archery threatened to outmatch Arjuna's , Drona sought Eklavya's right thumb as guru dakshina, fee offered as a tribute to a teacher. Without any hesitation and with a smiling countenance, Ekalavya chopped off his thumb and offered it to Drona
